COUNSELORS
Some of our counselors have returned from previous years and new staff are interviewed and selected by the director and parent volunteers. They are chosen on the basis of their genuine interest in working with children, as well as their character, personality and talents.
COUNSELORS AT BANBURY KIDS CAMP ARE FIRST AID/CPR CERTIFIED AND TRAINED IN USING AN EPI-PEN and DEFIBRILLATOR. Staff are provided with training prior to camp beginning.
Banbury Kids Day Camp is a non-profit summer program for children ages 4-8 that was started by a volunteer parent committee in affiliation with North York Parks and Recreation. We offer a unique summer program for children ages 4-8. Our goal is for our campers to enjoy a wonderful fun-filled experience in a caring, enthusiastic and creative environment.
A low camper/counselor ratio helps each child feel comfortable and
secure whether it is their first camp experience or not. We hire teachers, ECE’s, student teachers, experienced counselors, counselors in training, and individuals who have a passion for the outdoors and for working with children. All references are checked thoroughly.

Full Day - 8:45-3:15
Our Leadership-in-Training (LIT) program gives students an opportunity to experience an ideal environment with a balance of interactive learning/skill-building and fun. Our LIT program enables students to develop team building skills, leadership skills, and collaboration skills with the support of the director, head staff and specialists. Those who successfully complete the two or four-week program will receive a leadership certificate to include with their resume. (Please note, this program does not provide community service hours).
LIT’s support and learn from head counselors and counselors while interacting and participating with campers at the various specialties and counselor initiative programs at camp. LIT’s receive regular feedback and are provided with opportunities to reflect on their learning and to implement their learning. They also develop their leadership skills through training sessions and presentations from staff. Topics include- child development, program planning, problem solving, behaviour management, risk assessment, and more. The LIT program requires attendance at our pre-camp sessions (dates to be determined). Daily attendance is expected for the two or four week sessions.
Who is eligible and who should apply?
- Students who have finished grade 8 or 9 (and are not 15 by the start date of camp)
- Students who have the maturity necessary to contribute to and benefit from this excellent program
PLEASE NOTE- We take the LIT placement very seriously at camp. Successful LITS are those who are up for the challenge of learning, becoming a leader, having fun, working with children, making a difference and a contribution, and most of all, truly want to be at camp.
